Hello to all those in the Blogosphere! Below are pictures of Susan and Richard's fabulous trip to Alaska. We left from San Francisco on June 23 and returned on July 3, 2009! It was wonderful being able to take Amtrack right from Fresno to the pier where we boarded the Sea Princess.
Picture, if you will, the "Boarding the Ship" picture taken by the cruise photographer. I have it scanned right here in Microsoft Word, but seem to be unable to get it onto the blog. Use your imagination--there are two eagles, totem poles and our ports of call listed.
The picture below is of Richard late at night! Notice the moon. It doesn't get dark in Alaska at night. Thank goodness for thick curtains for our porthole-windowed cabin.
This is one picture of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It is a beautiful city with pletheras of flowers EVERYWHERE!

Below is Richard with Mr. Moose in Ketchican. Ketchican has some unique architecture and picturesque houses built on the side of a mountain and out onto the water using stilts. They also have the most jewelry stores right next to each other in the entire world.
Below, here we are with Patricia the Polar Bear, also in Ketchican. (We're not that into jewelry.)
Below we are in front of the Sea Princess in Juneau. Another lovely city. We toured the Mendenhall Glacier here. Beautiful, beautiful scenery and VERY LARGE AGRESSIVE MOSQUITOES!
Below, a sweet Japanese man offered to take our picture for us. He put the camera high up over his head and got this shot of us. He didn't even look into the viewer to see if we were in the picture. It was quite amusing, but we appreciated his willingness to be of service.

Below is another "in front of the ship pose." If I knew how to delete this, I would. In Skagway, we took a narrow gauge railroad train trip up into the mountains and into Canada. It was spectacular! We bought a video of this trip so I didn't take any pictures. When in Canada at the end of the line, we stood up, moved the backs of our seats to the other side of the seat and then rode back down the mountain!!! They did have extra tracks for the engine to go from the front of the train to the back of the train which was now the front of the train. So, going up we were in the car right behind the engine. Going back we were the last car. They had observation decks on the front and back of each car and being the last car was really a treat!
Below is Tracy Arm Ford. It was COLD, GORGEOUS, and VERY EARLY in the morning. We couldn't get very close as there were too many ice bergs, but the scenery was spectacular.
Below is our last stop in San Francisco at the end of our trip. We were going to celebrate with one last super meal by having yummy clam chowder in a bread bowl. As you can see, we were waiting for our Amtrack bus and needed to eat outside so we could keep an eye on our luggage. No sooner did we get the said soup in said bread bowls and our bus came 45 minutes earlier than we had expected. Two bites into our delicious farewell meal, they were tossed into the garbage can so we could wrestle our luggage over to the very antsy (Let's get this show on the road!) bus driver.
We had a wonderful time on our cruise. We loved the food, the service was superb, the food was great, the shows and entertainment were excellent, the food was divine, we met many delightful people, and the food was wonderful. We did determine that 10 days was too long! We were both very eager to get back into our own bed.

Looks like you had a great time. We took the train trip also but we took a bus up and rode a train back.
Those giant mosquitoes would have done me in. I could hardly believe those fruit sculptures. And that was too funny the way that Japanese guy took your picture. But it turned out nice...a good angle...so maybe there's something to it. Thank you for posting this! It was so fun seeing your trip.
Sounds like lot's of fun!!! Hey, sorry I never e-mailed you the directions you asked for. I must have gotten side-tracked! Again!
We LOVE cruises! Glad you had a fabulous time! And oh yes, the food is divine!!
